ABSTRACT

Fertility is the capacity to produce offspring while fecundity is a woman's biological ability to reproduce based on the monthly probability of conception (Wood, 1989). Clinical infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant after 12 months of unprotected intercourse and 15% of the population in industrially developed countries has been estimated to be affected (Healy et al., 1994 ). Fertility problems in female are often directly linked to hormonal imbalance and anovulation which ·are commonly associated with ovulation, ovarian syndrome, premature egg production, malfunction of hypothalamus, malfunction of pituitary gland, scarred ovaries, premature menopause follicle problems, etc. The endocrine system co-ordinates hormones thereby, maintaining proper hormonal balance. Disorder of the endocrine systems results in over production or underproduction of hormones which results from dysfunction originating in the peripheral endocrine gland itself or from understimulation or overstimulation by the pituitary gland. Sometimes, endocrine disorder especially underproduction of hormones occurs because of abnormal tissue response to hormones (John, 2013).
