The Effect Of Newbouldia Laevis Extract On Osmotc Fragilty Of Red Blood Cells Of Rats

ABSTRACT

The effect of, orally administered extract of newbouldia laevis on the osmotic fragility of the red blood cell membrane in experimental strain of female Wistar albino rats. It was investigated in 20 rats weighing between ±120g. The rats were grouped into 5 with 4 rats in each group. Group One (control), Group Two (4% Ethanol Leave Extract), group Three (4% Ethanol Root Bark extract), Group Four (Distilled Water Leave Extract). Arid Group Five (Distilled Water Root bark extract). The extract where given as supplements to the rats for 14 days after which there were sacrificed. So the rats were fed in adlibiluin with normal rat supplement. Osmotic fragility test of the red blood cell were conducted in all they groups. Group Three had the value decreased (4.8 g/L Nacl), for Group Four, the value also decreased (3.9 g/L Nacl), while Group Have had no significant change (5.3 g/L Nacl). The results from Tables I through 5 show that: Group Four (Distilled Water Leave Extract) and Group Three (4% Ethanol Root bark Extract), indicated more elects on the osmotic fragility of the Red Blood Cell membrane as compared to Group Two (4% ethanol leave Extract) and group Five (Distilled Water Root bark Extract). The result of this work is discussed from the mean corpuscular fragility (MCF) point of view.
