ABSTRACT


The study examined the Effect of Motivation on Employee Performance: A

Study of Selected Agribusiness Firms in Abia State, Nigeria. Specifically, it

analyzed the socio-economic profile of the employees; assessed the

relationship between motivation and employee performance and then

estimated the factors that influence employee performance. The study used

random sampling technique to select location and respondents and also

employed questionnaire in eliciting information and data from the

respondents. Sample size for the study was one hundred. The analysis of

data was done with the use of descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple

regression analyses. The descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of

socio-economic profile of the employees while the relationship between

motivation and performance. Factors affecting employee performance was

analyzed using multiple regression. From the results, experience, skill level,

marital status, work environment and age were signi tcant and thus

influenced employee performance. It was also found that there was a

positive relationship between motivation and performance. The study

therefore recommended that Periodic training and capacity programmes

should be organized for agribusiness employees to enhance their skills and

overall productivity.
