The Effect Of Euphorbia Heterophyllal. Lear Extract On Rabbits Infected With Salmonella Typhi

ABSTRACT

 Six male experimental rabbits were grouped into three viz I, II, III, the group II and III rabbits infected with Salmonella lyphi, were administered chemotherapeuticaliy with aqueous and ethanolic extract of E'uphorbia helerophylla. L leaves which caused a significant decrease in body weight. Mean relative kidney weight decreased from 1 .2x10 2 + 2.8x10 3to 1 .0x10 2 ± l.6x10 3in the aqueous extract group, but increases to 4.9x10 2 + 5.6x10 2in the ethanoic extract group. Mean relative spleen weight increased from 7. 1x10 3in aqueous extract group to 8.2x10 3but decreases to 5.6x10 3 ± 3.6x1O in the ethanoic group. The mean relative liver weight increases in both aqueous and ethanoic group from 3.!x10 2 + 3.9xlO 3to 3.9x10 2 + 3.9xlO' and 3.6x10 2 ± 3.1x10 3. Mean serum AST and ALT levels was above normal in both aqueous and ethanoic extract. While the serum creative kinase level was within iiorinal range. The mean serum electrolyte level for Nat, C1, K and HCO3was also out of normal range. Our findings from time experiments shows that the administration of both extracts had no remedial effect on the rabbits infected by LSal1n oiiella i phi.
