ABSTRACT

 This study was designed to identify the challenges of working mothers in Ikwuano Local Government Area, Abia state. The area covered in this study were Umudike and Ndoro communities, five research questions guided this study. Questionnaires was used to collect relevant data. The sample of the study was 250, which was randomly selected from a total population of 137,993 within the ages of 2 1-70 years. The questionnaires was faced-validated by three lecturers from the department of home Economics and was distributed and collected by hand. Data collection technique used in this study were Frequencies, Percentages, Mean and Standard deviation for analyzing the data collected. The findings from this study showed that 75.2% of household work were mostly performed by working mothers, and this task creates more challenges to working mothers. The result of this study also revealed that, 37.2% of working mothers faced prejudice in the work place as a result of home responsibilities. Five ways of solving these challenges were also identified. Recommendations were made based on the findings.
