ABSTRACT
Phytochemical composition and antibacterial activity of ethanolic and water extract of newboudia laevis were studied. Four known human bacterial pathpgens were used. They include Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella specie and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The test plant yielded 7.2% with water and 15.25% with ethanol. Also, photochemical composition revealed the presence of tannin, saponin, flavonoid, alkaloid, phenol cyanogenic glycosides. The water extract gave the highest inhibition zone of 12mm at 400mg/ml with E. coli and salmonella gave the lowest inhibition zone of 3mm at 12,5mg/ml while the ethanol extract gave the highest inhibition zone of 11mm at 400mg/ml and pseudomonas aeruginosa gave the lowest inhibition zone of 2mm at 12.5mg/ml
