Taxation A Viable Tool For Sustainable Economic Growth And Development In Nigeria (1996-2011)

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of tax  on economic growth4and development and to examine the extent to which gQirnent has been using revenue generated from tax Multiple linear regression aialysis and correlation analysis was used to analyse the data The overall regression shows a tatistically .sigrnficant result at 5% degree of sigrufloance, this implies that tax revenue has a significant impact on economic growth rind development in Nigeria. I therefore recommend that the Nigerian government shoyld reform th tax collection management to boost the tqx base of the economy, take more critical look at the petroleum profit tax being declared by majoc oil companies, educate Nigerians on the need to pay taxes and finally pay particular attention to the efficient management of the education tax.
