Studies On The Niqerian Mushroorm Pleurotus Tuber Regium

ABSTRACT
In this work, growing of mushroom mycelia in different agrowastes and the determination of the proximate composition, mineral and vitamin values of the mycelia as affected by the different agro-wastes have been carried out. The mycelia of the Pleurotus tuber-regium investigated, grew on all the agro-wastes. The highest growth(5.0 cm) was recorded on (T5), while the least (3.5 cm) was recorded on (T2).The (T5) also supported the highest mycelial density(9+),while the (T2) supported the least(5+).The moisture content of the mycelium grown on (Ti) was highest(34.24%) followed by 33.82 and 32.66% on (T5) and (T7) respectively. Crude fibre,Ash,Crude protein and Fats/oils were highest on (Ti)(26.22%),(T5) (4.06%),(T8) and (T6) and least on (T5) (22.84%),(T1) arid (T6) (3.24%),(Ti) (19.25%) and (T2) (4.28%) respectively. Carbohydrate was more (49.01%) in the mycelium of (T2) and least (35.54%) in that of (T7). The energy value of mycelium of (T6) was highest and that of (T7) was least. Similarly, the vitamins, thiamin niacin riboflavin and ascorbic acid and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium phosphorus were determined and were affected by the agro-wastes.The results were discussed in line with the importance of the myceIium of P. tuber-regium.
