ABSTRACT

It would appear that agricultural education at the senior secondary school level has hitherto failed to produce school leavers that have favourable attitudes towards agriculture. In an attempt to revert this, the nation has defined desirable goals and objectives for secondary education as well as Agricultural education at the senior secondary level. This study ascertained strategies for enhancing teaching of Agricultural science in senior secondary schools in Ohafia local government area of Abia state. It examined the current methods used by teachers in teaching of Agricultural science in senior secondary schools, the constraints and solutions to the problems. Based on the findings of the study it concludes that agricultural science teachers should be professionally trained as resource persons in the field of study. Government agencies should collaborate with community to provide relevant instructional aids for effective attainment of agricultural science goals. Furthermore, it also recommends that firstly, Agricultural science should be a compulsory subject in senior secondary schools in Ohafia and other secondary schools within the country. Sift loans should be made readily available to students who want to take up any Agricultural production venture.
