ABSTRACT

This work is aimed at investigating the relationship between educational status and the tendency to commit crime by an individual in Abia State. The data used in this study urc oblc1incd from the records of Abia state prisons. The educational status or the inmates were assessed through their statistical records. Regression analysis was cn1ploycd as a statistical technique to estimate the relationship between educational status and the tendency to co1111nil critnc. Clli-squ;1rc I.est or independence was also used l.o test the hypothesis ol no linear association between educational status and cri1T1e. 'The result of the analysis revealed that as educational qualification increases,the tendency of an individual to indulge in c1-ime reduces. Thus education has positive effect on crime tendency. 1-lc.:11cc we conclude that education is one of Lhc major tools t.llat could be adopted lo fight or reduce the tendency or an individual to commit crime.
