Proximate Analysis On Daraba Laisalis (Pyralidae, Lepidotera) A Candidate Of Unintentional Entomophagy:- Nkanang, Edidiong U

ABSTRACT ix Unintentional consumption of the garden egg (Solarium melogend) borer (Daraba laisalis) was investigated among the people in the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike community. Its nutritional composition was also assessed in the laboratory. The result indicated that this insect is unintentionally consumed. D. laisalis had high crude protein (69.4 ±0.01) content. The estimated moisture content available was (9.15 ± 0.00). It also had high dry matter (90.85 ± 0.01) and ether extract (17.8 ± 0.02) contents. Its ash and crude fibre contents were (5.29 ± 0.01) (3.16 ± 0.00) respectively. There was no carbohydrate found. From the result ofthe proximate analysis we may conclude that the unintended consumption of the garden egg larva is beneficial to the consumer.
