ABSTRACT

This study focused on "Problems and Prospects of External Auditors in Auditing Nigerian companies" using Akintola Williams and Company, in Enugu". The collections of data (qualitative and quantitative) were acquired for presentation and analysis to arrive at appropriate findings. A questionnaire was adopted for this purpose. The research revealed the following as findings: That the provisions in the companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) protect the external auditors while carrying out their responsibilities. That collusion by clients' staff constitutes a problem to external auditors' work. That improper bookkeeping by clients' staff constitute a major set back to external auditors' job. The researcher recommends that clients should be given adequate training from time to time to acquaint them with modern techniques and equipments, such as use of computers and others. The auditors should avoid any situation that may impair or lead them to compromising their professional ethics.
