ABSTRACT

Ringworm infections are common diseases of the stratum corneum of the skin, hair and nail. They are also referred to as dermatomycosis (demotophytosis) or tinea, a name which is qualified by the site affected example tinea pedis or tinea capitis for infections of the feet or scalp respectively. Dermatomycosis are often called ringworm, on the basis of an early mistaken notion, that worms and lice caused the disease in the skin, and also because the skin lesions are more or less circular with an inflamed border that gives a ringworm-like appearance. (Greenwood et.al., 1998; Pelczar et.aL, 1998; Summerbell, 1997).
