Prevalence Of Candida Albicans, Staphylococcus Aureus And Escherichia. Coli Isolated Form Hvs Of Female Students Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike.

Abstract

 The prevalence of Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli { isolated from high vaginal swabs of female students in MOUAU was carri,·d. Samples of high vagina swabs (HVS) were collected from I 00 volunteer female students in the female hostel of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, and examined for pathogenic organism. Of these samples 82 (0.82%) has an infection. The organisms isolated include staphylococcus aureus which had the highest prevalence of 42 (0.42%) in HVS samples. Candida albicans was next with 28 HVS samples. Escherichia coli was identified only 12 (0.12) HVS samples. The age group 20- 25 years had the highest prevalence. Mixed infections were also observed. I recommend that the female students living in the hostel should endeavor to keep their hostel clean and also engage in good personal hygiene so that they will not contaminate themselves with the above mentioned microorganisms.
