ABSTRACT vii The study of urinary schistosomiasis was conducted to determine it’s prevalence and intensity in Aka community Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, Nigeria between AugustOctober year 2012 using primary and secondaiy school children as study population. A total of 250 samples were examined for Schistosoma haematobium ova. One hundred and fourteen (114) (45.6%) were positive for ' Schistosoma haematobium ova. The prevalence and intensity of the infection showed a peak among 11- 15 age group (11.6%). This study revealed that the study area was endemic for urinary schistosomiasis. Therefore there is a need for Government intervention to effectively control the disease in the area.
