ABSTRACT

Morphology and structure of pollen were described for three different species of three plants; Datura metel from the family Solanaceae,Mi//ef/za thonningii from the family Fabaceae; Papilionaceae and Luffa cylindrica from the family Cucurbitaceaeby collecting their different pollen grains from matured flowers. Observation were made on the pollen shape, pollen aggregation after pollen formation, pollen aperture, polar view of the pollens, equatorial view of the pollens and pollen sculpturing using light microscope and micrographic microscope (scope image 9.0) to get the photomicrograph of the different pollen samples. Two different pollen shapes were observed among the three different pollen grains; tile circular shape and alliptic shape. Datura metel and Millcttia thonningii pollens are circular in shape and the alliptic shape were observed in Luffa cylindrica pollen. The findings ofthis study will contribute to the knowledge of pollen morphology to these plants and to their taxonomic delineation as well.
