ABSTRACT

The chemical constituents of Uvaria chamae (P. Beauv) and Clerodendron splendens (A antiherbal medicine. xi cheval) were studied. Phytochemical screening of ethanolic root extract of U chamae revealed the presence of alkaloids (8.1mg 100g *), tannins (0.4mgl00g ), cardiac glycosides (0.12mgl00'‘), phenols (O.lmglOOg’1) and flavonoids (5.7mgl00g’’). The mineral constituents from U. chamae include calcium (1.8mg 100g1), magnesium (0.67mgl00g'1), potassium (0.88mgl00g''), phosphorus (0.48mgl00g'‘), sodium (2.4mgl00g-1), iron (16.2mgl00g''), zinc (0.75mgl00g-1) and chromium (0.12mgl00g'’). Cadmium was not detected. The vitamin content includes niacin (OAOmglOOg'1), ascorbic acid (2.1mgl00g'1), thiamine (0.16mgl00g'7) and riboflavin (0.06mgl00g'‘). use of these plants in Phytochemical content of Clerodendron splendens revealed the presence of alkaloids (5.4mg 100g7), phenols (0.08 mg 100g'1), flavonoids (OJmglOOg’1), saponins (21mgl00g-7/ and tannins (3.6mgl00g'7). The mineral content comprises calcium (2.2mgl00g7), magnesium (1.61mgl00g'7) phosphorus (3.8mglOOg'7), potassium (1.3mgl00g ), sodium (2.6mg 100g ) and iron (5.6mgl00g 7). Chromium, cadmium and manganese were not detected. The vitamin content include, ascorbic acid (15.30mg 100g ■7), niacin (0.9mgl00g'7), riboflavin (0.13mgl00g7) and thiamine (O.8OmglOOg'7). The
