ABSTRACT Esherichia colif Staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas x This study analyzed the physiochemical and bacteriological quality oftap water source in Isiala Oboro Ikwuano LGA of Abia State. Tap water samples were collected in pre-sterilized plastic cans. Collection process was carried out meticulously to avoid external microbial contamination. All precautionary measures were taken to prevent contamination by the external environment during sampling process. The samples were properly labeled and transported immediately by holding in bag free ofmicroorganisms; the samples were stored in a refrigerator. The samples were, transported to the laboratory for microbial analysis. The chlorine, calcium, magnesium, sodium, Potassium contents ranged from 20.67-37.90 mg/L,32.064-88.176 mg/L, 19.456-53.504 mg/L, 1.10-1.30 mg/L ,0.130-0.370 mg/L respectively. The pH, Total dissolved solids, Total suspended solids and acidity ranged from 4.96-5.54, 1000-3000 mg/L, 3.14.98-674.95 mg/L, 2.00-2.80 respectively mg/L respectively. The temperature ranged from 27-28°C. While it was positive for other trace elements such as Barium, Zinc cobalt etc. The conductivity and Fluoride content was equally determined which ranged from 5.94-14.47, 0.076-0.516 mg/L respectively. Bacteria isolated from the water samples were aeruginosa and salmonella species. Sample 5 had the highest Total heterotrophic plate count, Coliform Count, Salmonella Shigella Count, Vibro Count and Staphylococcus Count with a count while sample 8 had the least bacteria count. The presence ofthese organisms in tap water makes it generally unsafe for drinking
