ABSTRACT

A field experiment was conducted in 2006 cropping session to evaluate the performance of six sesame varieties in Umudike agroecosytem. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replicates. The varieties were; NCRIBEN-01rn', NCRIBEN2in, NCRIBEN-3L, Yandev55, E8, and Ex-Sudan. Measurement were taken on lodging%, days to 50% flowering, plant height at harvest, number of capsules per plant, 1000-Seed weight and seed yield. The result obtained showed that the varieties did not statistically differ in days to 50% flowering, plant height at harvest, number of capsules per plant, and seed yield. Lodging was significantly lowest in NCRIBEN-02m, and highest in NCRIBEN-03L, E8, and Yandev55. 1000-Seed weight was highest in Sudan, while seed weight was significantly lowest in E8.
