ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of organizational climate and culture on teachers job performance in public secondary schools in Abia state. Expo-facto design was used for the study. The area of the study is Abia state. Seven research questions and six hypotheses guided the study. A sample size of 609 respondents comprising 347 teachers and 235 principals in secondary schools in Abia state were drawn through the use of proportionate stratified random sampling technique from a target population of 3970. A 4-point rating scale questionnaire with face and content validity ascertained by three experts from Measurement and Evaluation and Educational Management in the College of Education Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike was used for the study. Reliability index values of 0.74, 0.75, 0.64, 0.73, 0.69, 0.62 and 0.70 respectively for the seven clusters as a measure of internal consistency was obtained using Cronbach Alpha method. The 609 copies of questionnaires were administered with the help of three research assistants through direct delivery and recovery method. All the 609 copies ofthe instrument were returned and used for the data analysis. Research questions were answered using frequency counts, mean scores and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that controlled organizational climate and school decision-making of organizational culture to a high extent influences teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Abia State. The findings also revealed that open organizational climate, closed organizational climate, principals leadership behaviour and school organizational norms to a low extent influences teachers' job performance in public secondary schools in Abia State. Based on the findings, recommendations were made; that norms and values of secondary schools in the various states should be specified to teachers and principals for their daily practice, principals should encourage decision-making process in their staff meetings and allow every teacher to contribute his/her own idea, among others.
