ABSTRACT
The main objective of this work is to verify whether a particular sex or age group is affected by malaria fever more than the other(s) based on a given set of data. Reported cases of malaria fever, under various age and sex groups from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, for the period (1996-2000) was studied. Nonparametric technique was employed in analyzing the data collected from Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia. Three forms of the techniques were used: Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon Rank-sum test and kruskal-wallis H test. The result of the analysis revealed that malaria fever attack has almost the same effect on both sexes but decreases with increasing age groups. That is, the older one is, the more resistant he/she is to malaria fever. • The result of this analysis raises the question, "can one's body system get immuned, adapted or resistant to malaria fever?" The answer to this question is left for further research work especially by a medical team.
