ABSTRACT

This study assessed the mycological and aflatoxin contamination of peanuts collected from major markets in Umuahia Twelve (12) peanut butter samples were collected randomly three (3) samples collected each from four (4) markets in Umuahia and analyzed for Aflatoxin using thin layer chromatography method (TLC). The results indicated that peanut butter samples collected from Ahia-eke Market, Ubani market, Ndioro market and Orie-ugba market respectively were contaminated with aflatoxigenic fungi. The study reveals that high level of contamination in the samples could be due to poor storage conditions.
