ABSTRACT
Microbiological and physicochemical water quality of Imo River was investigated to determine the microbiological and physicochemical properties ofpaper recycling mill effluent on Imo River. Samples were collected at five different points for six consecutive months (March to August). Statistical included Klebsiella, Staphylococcus, Aeromonas and Bacillus. Fungi isolated included Rhizopus, Aspergillus and Penicillium. The physicochemical assessment revealed remarkable changes between the upstream (3.89mg/l), discharge point (16.71mg/l) and downstream stations (12.22mg/l)for biochemical oxygen demand.The upstream (182.33mg/l), discharge point (365.67mg/l) and downstream stations (215.55mg/l)for total dissolved solids and upstream by iron (1.70mg/l) and copper (0.26mg/l). The effluent xi mg/1) and discharge point (3.95 mg/1) shows the river was not affected at the upstream section. Variations in some other measured parameters — pll, temperature, phosphate, and nitrates (22.67mg/l), discharge point (49.50mg/l) and downstream stations (37.65mg/l) for total \ suspended solids.
