ABSTRACT

A study was done on the maize farm components as farm animal feed. The chemical composition was studied for maize cob, maize and cobs, maize grains, maize stalks and maize husks as farm animal feeds. The maize farm components have moderate level of protein from 2.7% to 8.1% (P<0.0 1 ). They are excellent squrce of ash observed (P<0.01) which is the index of mineral composition. They were observed to have high dry matter values and good quantity of organic matter (P>0.05). The cell wall is generally high (above 50%), except the maize grain with 8.0% and maize and cobs which has no cell wall, with (P<0.0 l ). The daily protein values which is the total protein nutrient required by the animal per day from the maize farm components indicated that 136.84g to 481.5g of the different samples would meet the requirement of 13% protein equivalent for complete for ruminant animals.
