ABSTRACT

This study was designed to find out the knowledge, attitude and practices of family planning among married couples in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. Survey research design was adopted in carrying out this research. The specific objectives of the study is to know the level of knowledge of couples about family planning, the method of family planning they use, the peoples attitude towards family planning, the people's perception about family planning. The study was guided by four research questions. The study population was 4220 couples, of which 350-sample size was used. The instrument for data collection was a well-structured questionnaire. Frequency and percentage statistical tools were used in analyzing the data. The findings showed that majority of the respondents have a positive knowledge and negative attitude towards family planning and they preferred the traditional method of family planning to other methods. Based on the findings, I recommend that family planning clinics should be established in the Local Government Areas, in hospitals, health centers where couples are taught on the importance of family planning to change their negative attitude.
