ABSTRACT

This study assessed Job satisfaction among academic staff of Home Economics/Home Economics related departments of tertiary institutions in Abia and Imo States, using Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Absu, Abia State College of Education(technical) Arochukwu, Imsu, Federal Poly Nekede, Imo Poly Umuagwo and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri as case studies. The population for the study was 277 academic staff of Home Economics/Home Economics related departments of these institutions mentioned above. The sample comprised 195 respondents. Results from the data revealed that majority of the academic staff of Home Economics/Home Economics related departments of these institutions were fairly satisfied with their jobs which indicated 76.4%. Results also revealed that academic staff that were highly satisfied fell within the age range of 50 years and above. The results also showed that their personal factors like age, marital status, educational level and present position influenced their perceived level of satisfaction. Based on this study, it was recommended that the head of departments, through the Management of these institutions should improve the facets of these academic staff's jobs that are deteriorating.
