Isolation And Characterization Of Microorganisms From Waste Dump Sites In Michael Okpara Univeristy Of Agriculture, Umudike:- Aniagu, Chukwuzuwa A

ABSTRACT

This research is on isolation and characterization of microorganisms from waste dump sites in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU). The samples were collected from three dump sites at the hostels in MOUAU. The physical parameters of the dump sites were determined; morphological and biochemical characterization was also carried out. Results of the research indicated the highest temperature of 290C in site B and C and lowest temperature of 280C in site A. the degree of acidity gotten ranged from 6.1 in site B, 6.6 in site A and highest of 6.8 in site C. the bacteria isolated from the dump sites are: Bacillus spp, Pseudomonas spp, Escherichia coli, Klebisella spp, Micrococcus spp, Enterobacter spp, Serratia spp and Staphylococcis spp. The fungi isolated were Aspergillus spp, Fusarium spp, Mucor and Penicillum spp. Many Bacteria and Fungi as was identified by the result were isolated from the dump sites.
