ABSTRACT

A weekly study on the monthly physico-chemical conditions of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike fish pond was conducted for a period of 4 months from June 2008 to September 2008. Variations among the parameters were observed throughout the period of study. The maximum water temperature was recorded in June (29.5C) and the minimum was recorded in the month of August (23.4'C), the period of rains. The pond water was alkaline throughout the study period. The pH was found to fluctuate between 7.0 (June) and 9.0 (Sept.). Dissolved oxygen concentration pattern followed the temperature pattern by being low in the rainy months because solubility of oxygen in water varies with temperature. Mean Secchi disc value ranged from 20.5cm to 23.3cm, from August to September. These physicoChemical Parameters were conducive for effective water productivity.
