Influence Of Religious Orientation And Parental Socioeconomic Status On Aggressive Behavior Of Secondary School Students In Umuahia Education Zone :-

ABSTRACT i 5 I This study investigated influence of religious orientation and parental socio-economic status on aggressive behaviour of secondary school students in Umuahia Education Zone. Four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. Co relational design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised 28,963 senior secondary students in both private and public schools. The instrument; Influence of Religious Orientation and Parental Socio-economic Status on Student’s Aggressive Behaviour Questionnaire was developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by three experts from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike. A trial-test was conducted with the instrument to ascertain its reliability coefficient value. It yielded a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.83 and 0.73 respectively for influence of religious orientation and influence of parental socio-economic status on student's aggressive behaviour. The overall reliability of the instrument yielded an internal consistency of 0.87 for the questionnaire. Data obtained through the administered questionnaire were organized and analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (R2) to answer the research questions and to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level ofsignificance. The study found that: religious orientation significantly influences aggressive behaviour of secondary school students- in Umuahia Education Zone. Educational attainment of parents positively moderately influences aggressive behaviour of students. Parents’ income positively moderately influences aggressive behavior of students. Parents’ occupation positively highly influences aggressive behaviour of students. Religious orientation, income of parents and parent’s occupation are significant (p<0.05) in influencing aggressive behaviour of secondary school students while educational attainment of parents is not significant (p>0.05) in influencing aggressive behaviour of secondary school students... It was recommended that teachers, religious leaders, school management, school administrators and Counselling psychologists should use appropriate educational tools toMjnhance religious orientation for better understanding and adaptability ofstudents.
