ABSTRACT xi The study empirically examined the impact ofgovernment revenue on the economy ofNigeria between 1981 and 2018. Secondary method ofdata collection was used to generate datafor this study and the sources ofthe data included annual reports /accounts and CBNstatistical bulletin. Multiple regression ofordinary least square estimation was the tool used to analyse the data in this study. In the model, real GDP (as dependent variable) was regressed on foreign direct investment (FD1), tax revenue (TAXREV), exchange rate (EXCHR) and government expenditure (GEX). The study has revealed, that there exists a significant long-run relationship between government expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that: Governmentshould use fiscalpolicy to complement the adoption ofeffective monetarypolicy and maintain the rule oflaw to promote stability in the Nigerian economy. Government should ensure that capital expenditure and recurrent expenditure are properly managed in a manner that it will raise the nation'sproduction capacity and accelerate economic growth even as itreduces external borrowing.
