Impact Of Environmental Accounting On The Performance Of Oil And Gas Company (A Study Of Shell Petroleum Development Company River State)

ABSTRACTThe study focuses on the Impact of Environmental Accounting  on the Profitability of Shell Petroleum Development  Company. Data were collected from both primary and secondary  sources using the survey research  design. The data collected were then  tabulated  and analyzed  using  the  simple  regression  analysis.  The result  of hypothesis   one  revealed   that  pollution   cost  has  a  significant   effect  on  the profitability  of oil and gas companies.  The finding of hypothesis two revealed that significant  relationship  between  environmental  management  system  and environmental  performance.  The finding of hypothesis  three revealed  that  social cost  has  a significant  effect on the performance  of oil and gas companies.  It  is recommended  that  oil companies  should  engage  in environmental  accounting  to increase  their  profitability.   The  information  that  would  be  provided  should  be accurate  and reliable  in  order  to make  a good  decision.  Oil  companies  should employ staff in management area that would help in managing their environmental accounting  to enhance their performance.  Finally, companies  should comply with the environmental  rules and regulations to avoid penalties.
