ABSTRACT

The effect of Bambara groundnut (Voanzeia subterraned) an^Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajaii) supplemented diets on rat liver microsomal enzymes namely sefum-Aspartate-amino transferase (AST), Serum - alanine-amino transferase and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as well as lipid peroxidation levels were investigated. The groups fed with bambara groundnut-supplemented diet and Pigeon Pea-supplemented diet had decreases in AST and ALT levels over the control groups. These decreases were statistically significant at p>0.05. Also decrease in serum ALP levels was observed in both groups fed with Bambara groundnut supplemented diet and Pigeon pea supplemented diet and this decrease over the control groups was statistically significant. The lipid peroxidation level also showed slight decrease over the contol group.
