Harnessing AI For 21st Century Language Education for Freshers at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike :- Igbozuruike, Hope

ABSTRACT

This study examines the rote ofA m .mprovmg languageeduca,onamong 100-level students a Michael Okpara University ofAgriculture Umudike (MOUAUy Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 336 freshers through a structured questionnaire. Findings revealed a high awareness (M 3.04) and usage (M 2.84) ofAI tools like Grammarly andDuolingo, with students reporting significant improvements in grammar (M = 3.08), vocabulary’ (M = 3.01), and speaking skills (M = 3.02). However, challenges such as poor internet access (M = 3.03) and insufficient training (M = 2.17) hinder effective AI adoption. The study concludes that AI tools enhance language proficiency but require institutionalsupport in infrastructure and trainingfor sustainable integration. Recommendations include improving digital access, curriculum integration, andAIliteracyprogramsforstudents and educators.
