ABSTRACT ix The study investigated the extraction of Moringa oleifera seed oil using soxhlet apparatus after drying the seed to a constant weight and its phytochemicals and physiochemical analysis. The moringa oleifera oil extracted from 320grams of the seed with ethanol makes 16.31% of the seed weight and this oil yielded positive to compounds like terpernoids, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, resins, proteins, steroids, saponins and tested negative to carbohydrates, phenol and tannins after qualitative Phytochemical analysis. The physiochemical analysis showed that the oil has Specific gravity value of 0.83±0.01g/cm3 Acid value of 16.41± O.Olmg/KOH/g, free fatty acid value of 8.21±0.02mgKOH/g, iodine value of 68.40±0.01, peroxide value of 13.41±0.01meq/kg, saponification value of 168.22±0.02mg/KOH/g and unsaponified value of 15.80±0.01mgKOH/g making this oil a potential new source of oil. This study has highlighted the unsaturated nature and low peroxide value of the oil which may qualify the Moringa oil for use in industries, such as food, biofuel generation, agrochemicals, paint and varnishes manufacturing
