Evaluation Of The Anti-Inflammatory And Hematological Studies Of Methanolic Extract Of Alchornea Cordifolia On Carrageenan Induced Rat Paw Edema Of Albino Rat:- Idoko Sunday E

ABSTRACT V Medical and folklore reports suggest that Alchornea cordifolia is a functional plant that contain numerous compounds in its composition that has been used to cure several diseases. In this present study, the anti-inflammation was elevated in chronic inflammation mode using carrageenan to induce. Comparison was made between controls and different concentration ofthe extract which include 400mg/kg, 200mg/kg, and lOOmg/kg. The result revealed that methanol-methylene chloride extract ofAlchornea cordifolia exerted most anti-inflammatory effect at the concentration of 400mg/kg which is the maximum against other concentrations in comparison with the standard drug, aspirin. Result showed maximum significant reduction in paw volume (p<0.05) at day 3, 4 (4.27± 0.33, 3.88± 0.36) mm at 400mg/kg extract when compared to the negative control (6.39±0.1, 6.33±0.02), it further shows also the changes in haematological indices that accompanied the inflammation from carrageenan in rat. The level ofWBC, RBC, PCV, and HB were determined. There were significant increase in WBC, RBC, PCV, and HB in the test group compared to control. This study suggest that intake ofAlchornea cordifolia is encouraged as it increased the haematological indices oftreated rat when compared with control.
