ABSTRACT

The purpose of drinking water evaluation is to guarantee the quality and safety of water intended for human consumption. During water quality is determined by the water's biological, chemical and physical features. Water sampling was carried out in UmuariagaOboro Community in Ikwuano L.G.A, Abia State. The sample was collected from a public tap supply during wet season. All the values obtained were above the World Health Organization standard except the microbiological parameters which was in accordance with the WHO standard. The water in UmuariagaOboro community is not safe for drinking. The WHO standard for the pH of portable water is 6.5-8.5 but the in-situ pHvalue of the water in UnuariagaOboro is 5.6. Finally, this paper present some challenges that in the opinion of the author, there is still need to incorporate more effort into drinking water evaluation. Furthermore, a need to define common criteria for some nonresolved topics such as products and materials in contact with drinking water and domestic conditioning equipment has also been identified.
