Effects Of Ethanolic Leaf Extract Of Justicea Carnea On Serum Electrolytes In Phenyl Hydrazine Induced Aneamic Male Albino Rats.:- Mbakwe Onyinyechi P

ABSTRACT The study was carried out to investigate the effect ofthe ethanolic leafextract ofJusticea Cornea, on body weight, relative organ weight and serum electrolyte in phenyl hydrazine induced aneamic rats. The result ofthe acute toxidity studies ofthe ethanolic leaf extract shows that, the extract did not cause any death to the albino rat at 5000mg/kg body weight ofthe extract. The study recorded increased in weight. There was no significant (p<0.05) increase in relative organ weight ofthe experimental group (treated groups) when compared with the non-treated aneamic group. The subacute effect of ethanolic extract of Justicea cornea on serum electrolyte shows a significant (p<0.05) increase in all parameters (Na+, K+, Ca2+, CT, HCO3 ) of the treated groups when compared with the non-treated group and normal control. This study shows that Justicea carnea is safe for consumption and can be used as anti-aneamic plants based on the recent findings.
