ABSTRACT

The study investigated the effect of increc sing population on economic growth in Nigeria covering the period of1981 to 2018. The objectives ifthe study were to determine the effect of population growth rate on trie economic growth oj Nigeria and examine long run relationship between population growth and gross domestic product The study employed ordinary least square regression technique. Thus revealed that, population growth has a positive and significant impact on Niget ia economic growth and unemployment rate has a negative and significant impact on Nigeria economic growth. Based on the findings, the study recommended that; government should embaik on a program in which average population growth should be maintained so as to inciease the standard ofliving ofthe citizens in the country. There is need for government to step up in regulating the unemployment rate activities through the stabilization ofmacroeconomic variables by the monetary authorities (CBN)for its effect on the economic viability
