Effect Of Methanolic Extracts Of Amaranthus Hybridus And Telferia Occidentalis Leaves On The Kidney Function Parameters Of Aspartame Induced Oxidative Stress In Wistar Albino Rats.:- Agbo, Barbara C

ABSTRACT xi The study was carried out to evaluate the protective effect of methanol extract of Telferia occidentalis and Amaranthus hybridus on aspartame induced oxidative stress in the kidney of wistar rats. Twenty five albino rats of both sex were divided into five groups of five animal group per group. The group A animals was given Amaranthus hybridus and Telferia occidentalis (150mg/kg each) after one hour of administration of aspartame at a low dosage of 40mg/kg, Group B animals was given Telferia occidentalis (300mg/kg) alone after one hour of administration of aspartame, Group C animals was given Amaranthus hybridus (300mg/kg) alone after one hour of administration of aspartame, Group D animals was given aspartame alone which is the negative control and the normal control rat was given normal feed and water. There was no significant (P > 0.05) difference in the levels of creatinine and urea when compared with the test group and the negative control group. The result suggest that aspartame may not affect urea and creatinine concentration in the kidney
