Effect Of Methanol Extract Of Dennettia Tripetala (Pepper Fruit) Fresh Leaves On Serum Lipid Profile In Male Albino Rats:- Benson, Emmanuel C

ABSTRACTThis study aimed at determining some kidney function indices in albino rats administered methanol leafs extract ofDennettia tripetala. Twenty healthy male albino rats weighing between 180- 240g were divided into four groups of five rats each were used in this study. Group 1 was the control group, group 2 received an oral dose of 100 mg/kg, methanol leave extract of Dennettia tripetala daily, group 3 received an oral dose of 200 mg/kg methanol leave extract of Dennettia tripetala daily while group 4 received an oral dose of 400 mg/kg methanol leave extract of Dennettia tripetala daily. After 21 days of administration the rats were sacrificed blood sample were collected through ocular puncture to assay the biochemical parameters. All administrations were done orally. Standard analytical methods were used to determine lipid parameters (cholesterol (CHOL), Triglyceride (TC), High Density Lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), Low Density Lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and Very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C)). The result showed a significant decrease in the concentrations of CHOL and LDL-C when compared to the control(p< 0.05), TAG and VLDL-C showed significant increase in concentration when compared to the control while HDL-C concentration were within the normal range when compared to the control(>0.05)
