ABSTRACT

The study investigated “Effect ofMerger andAcquisition on growth andperformance ofbanks in Nigeria (A case study ofEco Bankpic) ” and is divided into differentstages for ease of reference and simplification of analysis which goes as follows; The introduction ofMerger andAcquisition as an effective means ofensuring stability and profitability ofthe banking sector, the statement oftheproblem which involves the issue of the unwillingness of many organizations to adopt Merger and Acquisition as a solution to the dwindling organization. The specific objectives are to assess the significant effect in return on asset (ROA), return on equity (ROE), andprofit after tax (PAT) after merger and acquisition of Eco Bank Pic. The researcher adopted secondary data in getting the required information. The data was analyzed usingsimple regression analysis. The findings in chapterfour shows that there is significant effect in ROA, ROE, and PATafter merger and acquisition ofEco Bank Pic. The researcher recommends that companies orfinancial institutions which are having problems of inadequate capital can resort to merger and acquisition as an option to improve their capital base, that merger and acquisition should be employed as a means to improve thefinancialperformance ofindividuals, firms or corporate bodies.
