Effect Of Hydro Ethanolic Extract Of Amaranth Us Hybridus (Green Leaf) On Bilirubin Concentration In Serum Of Thioacetamlde Intoxicated Wistar Rat

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated concentrations and the levels of total bilirubin and direct bilirubm level of a thioacetamide intoxicated wistar rat. The dried leaves of the Amaranthus hybridus were extracted by cold maceration method. Intoxication was achieved by administering 0.3g/l thioacetamide daily. From the result, it showed that there was liver injury in the negative control with significantly (P < 0.05) higher in bilirubin concentrations when compared to other groups. The extract gave a minimum therapeutic effect on the result. It shows no much variation on the dosages, compared to the positive control (total and direct bilirubin) level with that of test 100mg/kg to 400mg/kg. This showed that hydro ethanolic extract of Amaranthus hybridus had a bilirubin lowering effect in the thioacetamide intoxicated wistar rat.
