ABSTRACT

The work is aimed at investigating the effect of methanol extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa on thiacetamide induced hepatocarcinoma on the antioxidant and hematological parameters of wister rats over a 21 days period. The rats were divided into three groups with four in each group. The first group which is the control received feed and water throughout the period of the study, the second group which is positive control received 0.54ml of thioacetamide alongside feed and water and the third group which is the test group for the extract received 0.38ml of leaf extract. The animal was observed for the period ofthe study blood from the animal was collected for analysis such as RBC, TWBC, PVC, HB , were carried out and result obtained showed that there was significant decrease or increase(P< 0.05) when the test group is compared with the positive control group for the results obtained for RBC ,TWBC, PVC, HB, there was no significant decrease or increase (P< 0.05).The result obtained are an indication that the administration of plant extract to thioacetamide rats could raise liver damage as stated in previous studies.it equally increases the rate oflipid peroxidation.
