ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effect of flavoured creep diets on the performance of piglets. Sixteen cross breed piglets (large white /landrace) at two weeks of age were housed in two individual pens provided with creep area, along with their sows. They were randomly divided into two treatments with 8 piglets per treatment. Each treatment was replicated twice . .. The first treatment was fed with vanilla flavoured diets at 0.5% inclusion level, while the second treatment was unflavoured creep diet The experiment lasted for 30 days and results showed that there was a progressive increase in body weight of all piglets. The mean values for the body weight were 5 .11 ± 0.64kg for unflavoured and 6.43 ± 0.31 kg for the flavoured diet, indicating a significant difference between the two treatments. Parameters that were studied include head size ± 0.35cm and 16.88 ± 0.29cm), the neck size (31.75 ± 1.21cm and 39.13 ± 0.81cm), the Abdominal diameter (23.63 ± 1.36cm and 25.25± 0.73cm), the Grith about (20.75 ± 0.36cm and 24.38 ± 0.49cm) Statistically there was difference between the flavoured and unflavoured creep diets in all the parameters i measured
