ABSTRACT x The nephroprotective potentials of ethanol extract of Gouania longipetala leaves against acetaminophen-induced renal toxicity in male albino rats were investigated. The rats were randomly grouped into five (5) with four (4) rats in each group. Group 1 rats were the normal (positive) control that received water and feed ad libitum daily for 14 days. Renal toxicity was induced in vivo in rats of Groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 with oral 1.5g/kg body weight of acetaminophen (paracetamol). Groups 3, 4 and 5 were orally administered 200 mg/kg, 600mg/kg and lOOOmg/kg body weight ofthe extract respectively daily for a period of 14 days. Group 2 rats were the negative control and were not given the extract. Acetaminophen caused kidney damage as evidenced by statistically significant (p<0.05) increase in the urea and creatinine levels, and a significant decrease in the uric acid level in the blood. Treatment with Gouania longipetala extract significantly (p<0.05) showed effective protection ofthe kidney as evident in the serum levels of renal biomarkers by bringing the levels of urea, creatinine and uric acid in the blood to almost the same as that ofthe positive control (group 1)
