Effect Of Budgets And Budgetary Control On The Performance Of Banks In Nigeria (A Study Of Selected Banks)

ABSTRACT

Budgets and Budgetary control have their effect on the performance of an institution. The main objective  of this study is to investigate the effect of budgets and budgetary control on the performance of banks in Nigeria. The research also aims at determining t h e problems inherent in the preparation of budgets and implementation of budgetary control measures. Data were collected from primary source through the distribution of questionnaires. The variables are Budgets, Budgetary Control and Performance. Descriptive statistics such as tables and percentages were used in the analysis of data and the researcher employed the ordinary least square based simple regression technique of data analysis to estimate the relationship between the variables. Data presentation was done through the use of tables for understanding and interpretation to be made simple. The variables were tested at a 5% significant level and the hypothesis whose results are lower than 5% accepted the alternative hypothesis. From the above, the study recommends that banks should for no reason take the budgetary process lightly so as to improve on already set efficient levels and also to take into considerations the problems inherent in the preparation of budgets as aforementioned in this study.
