ABSTRACT xi Medicinal plant which are used as natural medicines have been throughout human history and such practices has remained up till this present time. The objectives of this work centers on examining the acute toxicity and lethality effects which showed no toxicity even at a high dose of 5000mg/kg body weight and the effects ofthe aqueous extract ofLoranthus micranthus Linn on the biochemical indices after chronic administration of Artemether-lumefantrine on the liver of male Wistar rat as models. Sixteen (16) male wistar rats were used and divided into four groups, Group one (1) served as control, Group two (2) received only aqueous leaf extract, Group three (3) received Artemether-Lumefantrine (27mg/kg) and the last group four (4) received a combination of the aqueous extract (150mg/kg) and the drug (27mg/kg). there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the result obtained from Total protein of group 2 when compared to the total protein of group 1, while there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the total protein of group 3 and 4 when compared to group 1. There was also a significant difference (P< 0.05) in Aspartate aminotransferase of group 2 when compared to the AST of group 1 while group 3 and 4 showed no significant difference (P>0.05) when compared to group 1. Furthermore, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the ALT of group 2, 3, and 4 when compared to group 1. Form the study, the results showed that the aqueous extract of the leaves ofLoranthus micranthus contains some pharmacologically active principles which are in support of local application of the plant in elevating plasma Total protein and Aspartate aminotransferase activity in the body. It also shows that chronic administration of coartem is toxic to the body and leads to liver damage with an increase in Aspartate aminotranferase, Alanine aminotransferse activity ofthe liver and a decrease in plasma total protein concentration
