ABSTRACT

 This research work focused on the economics of broiler production in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. A random sample of l3 respondents were obtained from the four clans that make-up the study area. Well-structured questionnaire were used in the data collection from the chosen respondents. The data obtained were subjected to analysis using simple statistical tools including means, percentages, frequencles, tables regression analysis. Furthermore, net farm income and efficiency indices of resources were also derived. Results of the study indicate that none of the inputs was optimally allocated. The economic returns of the enterprise placed profitable at a net profit margin of N672, 170. The input factors, labour, feed, capital and other inputs significantly influenced broiler output. Constraints including, lack of capital, inadequate feeds supply, drugs, diseases, market channels, extension agents and poor transportation network adversely affected productivity. In recommendation, provision of adequate incentives ill supporting services to broiler producers would help develop the industry, tin boosting productivity in broiler production.
