Beneficial micro bacteria are of special interest due to ability of agroactive compound and improvement of soil high. The study was aimed to determine the phosphate solubilizing of microflora isolated from cocoyam rhizosphere. The soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of cocoyam soil. A total number of 13 bacteria strains were isolated from rhizosphere of cocoyam plant. The total bacteria heterotrophic count of the rhizosphere ranged from 1.61 x10 to 3.45 x 10°. The percentage occurrence from the following study revealed that Baci/lusspp 46% had the highest percentage occurrence followed by Streptomycesspp 30. 7% while Pseudomonas aeruginosa 23% showed the least percentage occurrence. The solubilizing index ranged from 2.40cm to 4.50cm. Bacterial isolates that have the ability to solubilize phosphate ,have the potential to enhance soil phosphorous .For this reason, further studies with a degradation of complex carbohydrates, synergistic activities, antagonisms and production of plant growth promoting hormones, can make an important contribution to agriculture.
