ABSTRACT

Fifty (50) samples of stool were collected from students of Michael Okpara university of Agriculture, to isolate and evaluate the antibiotic sensitivity profile if students population. The antibiotic sensitivity pattern was determine diffusion method with Abtek brand of sensitivity disc. Of the 50 sa (24%) produced significant growth and the antibiotic testing was carrie 12 isolates. The antibiotic sensitivity testing revealed that all the 12 sensitive to Nitrofurantoin, 8 isolate (66.7%) wer.e sensitive to Genta isolates (25%) were sensitive to both Nalidixic acid and Amoxycilin,2 (16.7%) were resistant to Gentamycin and Ofloxacin and Augmenti isolates (8.35%) was resistant to amoxycilin. All the isolates were coml: to cotrimoxazole and tetracycline and as such did not produce inhibitory zone. This work shows the importance of antibiotics testin any antibiotic for treatment of S. typhi infection. The antibiotic sensitivil isolatesrevealed a high sensitivity to antibiotics not frequently used fc of S. typhi infection and a high resistance to antibiotics commonly use6 a Universit typl7i ill if. using dis )les only 1; out on thus' olates werE 'cm while . the isolate tI1CI 1 of thE tely resistar i growth 01 before using )attern of the :F1e treatmen
